A city in northeastern Ukraine is considering a plan to take on the local pigeons by getting them drunk on wine and deporting them, a local news website reported.

The radical measure was proposed to prevent a monument to poet Taras Shevchenko in Sumy from being covered in bird droppings ahead of City Day, Obkom.com.ua said on Monday.

“Let’s give them wine-soaked bread and then deport them somewhere where they’ll wake up the next day,” Alexei Movchan, who heads the city branch of the ruling Party of Regions, was cited as saying about the pigeons.

A Ukrainian powerlifter, Dmitry Khaladji, is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the author of more than two dozen records. One of them is called “The Devil’s Forge”. He lies on a bed of nails and is covered with 700-kg plates which are broken with sledgehammers. Sounds like fun!

Ukraine has competed in 4 Olympics. It is only ranked 35 by the number of gold medals won in the All Time Olympic Medal Count but every country above the Ukraine, except Russia, has made more appearances.

It's the flag of Ukraine. The world's smallest book is held in Kiev in the Nikolai Syadristy Museum of Microminature. It was made by Ukranian artist Nikolai Syadristy who first created microminatures - works of art so small that they have to be viewed with a microscope! It is 0.6 sq mm and contains 12 pages of poems and drawings sewn together with cobweb. Truly amazing!
