How To Win Competitions

With regular use of ThePrizeFinder you'll be winning prizes in no time at all! Here are our top tips on how to win...

Top tips for winning prizes

  • Enter as many competitions as you can, but if you have limited time then concentrate your efforts on the prizes you really want to win
  • Download Roboform software. It will auto-fill entry forms for you with one click - read more on our blog
  • Read the rules. It takes a bit of extra time but you don't want to disqualify yourself - or win a holiday that you can't take because you didn't read the dates in the terms and conditions!
  • Try trickier 'skill-based' competitions - they don't have many entries, so a bit of extra effort can often result in a great prize
  • Be patient! It can take a while to start winning prizes, so don't give up.
  • Enter comps with lots of smaller prizes - you'll have a great chance of winning!
  • Check out the winning stories on our Top Winners page or our 'Best Prize Ever' blog post to keep yourself motivated and inspired - and if you need encouragement pop over and see us at www.facebook.com/theprizefinder, where you can keep up to date with the latest competition news and chat

PrizeFinder FAQs

Are the competitions free to enter?

ThePrizeFinder.com is a free service and all the competitions we list on the site are free to enter unless stated otherwise in the listings. There's no catch - some of the advertised competitions may ask to send you emails about their products, but you can unsubscribe from these emails at any time.

Is it safe to give my address details?

Competition organisers may need your home address to make sure that one person isn't entering under multiple email addresses. Many websites operate strict privacy policies and will not disclose your details to other companies or individuals without your permission. However, you may receive mail or email from a website as a result of entering their online competitions. If you are worried about how your your data will be used, look at the terms and conditions and privacy policy pages on the website running the competition.

How do I ensure I don't miss any comps?

We now add competitions to the site LIVE during the day, so it's best to check the New Competitions page daily in the evening, or work from the previous day's New Competitions page to ensure you see all the day's new listings. Some people prefer to use the Closing Soon section, but this means that you will miss competitions that have closed early or ones that we find and publish at the last minute. If you have time, don't forget to check the daily, weekly and monthly pages on a regular basis.

How do I know what I've entered?

ThePrizeFinder has a built-in personal competition tracking system - you must be registered and logged in for this to work. You can mark competitions as Entered, Ignore them or Save for Later. In addition to the tracker, clicking on links will mark them as 'Visited' - you can choose to hide your visited links on the 'Customise Listings' page.

Can I enter more than once?

Unless it states in the competition rules that multiple entries are acceptable, we would advise against entering more than once as your entries may be disqualified. If you do accidentally enter more than once, some promoters will delete multiple entries so that only one of your entries will go into the draw. Some are more strict and will disqualify all of your entries if they find that you have entered more than once!

What kind of competitions are listed?

The PrizeFinder lists a variety of online competitions. Most will be simple online prize draws, or a competition with an easy question. In the 'Tie-breaker' section you will find skill competitions (recipe, photo, video, slogan, etc), and Facebook and Twitter comps also have their own category. Blog competitions are more popular now too, you usually enter these by commenting on a blog post, or by using a Rafflecopter entry form.

What about short-notice Facebook and Twitter comps?

It's worth following us at www.twitter.com/theprizefinder or www.facebook.com/theprizefinder for details of Facebook and Twitter competitions!

I live outside the UK. Can I still enter?

ThePrizeFinder.com has a heavy UK bias but some competitions we list are open worldwide. Check the restrictions in the competition listings.

How do I know if I've won?

In most cases, the website running the competition will contact you by email, phone, Twitter reply or Facebook message, or you may just receive a prize out of the blue! Some blogs or Facebook pages require you to visit their winners list page and 'claim' your prize, but this is very rare.

I haven't won anything - help!

To increase your chances of winning, concentrate on entering competitions which have multiple prizes or enter competitions with a skill based element (eg quizzes, games, tiebreakers). Competitions on Twitter and Facebook tend to have fewer entries than standard web competitions too.

What should I do if I haven't got my prize, or if it's not what was described?

See our blog post about complaints at www.theprizefinder.com/blog/2012/03/09/comping-questions-when-things-go…

How do I update my address details?

If your main or home address has changed, log in and click 'My account' at the top right of the page - update your details and click 'Save'.

Why do I get an error message?

A "page cannot be found" error means the page has moved to another location or been removed - try searching for the prize on the Home page to see if you can locate the competition. Please also contact webmaster@theprizefinder.com with all the competition details so that we can update our listing. A "server error" message means the website is probably down for a short time - try again later.

How do I unsubscribe from the eNewsletters?

Log in and go to My account. Click the 'eNewsletter Subscriptions' tab and untick the appropriate boxes.

You need to be logged in for the competitions tracking system to work. If you are not logged in, your competition visits will not be recorded and there will be no information shown about the competitions you have already entered. Look at the top-right of the website for the 'Hello' caption to confirm you are logged in.
