  • Most of the time when a winner of a comp is picked, the promoter will tag in the winner’s name.  However, these don’t always seem to show up in your notifications, so do make a point of checking company timelines, as well as searching for your name in comping groups, on a regular basis.  Also don’t forget to check your “Others” box in your Facebook messages – promoter messages quite often end up in there, so check it regularly for wins!

Lastly, here are a few pointers to remember when doing Facebook comps:

  • Make sure any "Shares" you do are set to "Public", otherwise the promoter won’t see them and your entry won’t count.
  • If you see a comp shared by someone else, or even us here at The Prizefinder, make sure you go into the post or the photo itself and  complete the required actions – DON’T just comment, like and share the SHARED post, as again the promoter won’t see it and you won’t be entered.  Don’t forget to "Like" the promoter’s page too.
  • If your non-comping Facebook friends start to get a little annoyed at their Newsfeed filling up with competition posts, you can advise them to “Unfollow” you.  This doesn’t mean you have to lose them as a friend, but it means they won’t see your posts in their timeline – they will still be able to click into your profile and catch up on what you have been doing if they want to, but you won’t be monopolising their feed.  The default setting for your friends is that they “Follow” you automatically, but if your friends click into your profile and hover over the “Following” button they can then “Unfollow” you.
  • If you enter a comp you really like the look of and you are worried about missing the winner announcement, then remember you can always switch on “Notifications” for that promoter.  If you hover over the "Liked" button on their main timeline, you can then add a tick next to "Get notifications" and now, whenever the promoter adds a post you will get a notification of it - meaning you won’t miss when they announce a winner.

I have been avoiding the like and share comps because I didn't want to annoy my friends and now that my timeline is filled with all the feeds it is impossible to check each one in case I am named as a winner. hisuffy35, in theory you idea is a god one. But the problem is Facebook doesn't like us having more than 1 account, and you risk a ban if you are found to have more than one. Also, if other compers, promoters etc find out, it could be seen as if you were trying to cheat by entering comps with more than 2 account - believe it or not there are PLENTY of people who do just that. There are some people who have 5, 6, 7 accounts all in slightly different names, but all entering comps! So, to be safe, it is best to keep one account and advise your non-comping friends how to unfollow you if it poses a problem. I hope that makes sense xt

Thanks so much for this post and the one on searching for wins they are so informative.

I only started comping in April and to be fair I have done better than I thought I would. However, I have had no luck whatsoever with Facebook. I can't help but think I'm going wrong somewhere along the line.

It would be great to join a group of like minded compers, is there anything you can recommend? It's nice to think that people don't get competitive over it and can just enjoy a shared hobby.
