This is only Ukraine's fifth time at the Olympics! After becoming an independent nation in 1994, it's first Olympics was in 1996. In the four summer games it's taken part in so far, they've won 96 medals!

Ukraine - Following the example of the main hero of a famous folk tale “Levsha” (The Lefthander) by N. Leskov, Ukrainian Nikolai Syadristy decided to shoe a flea. The flea can be seen in the Kiev Museum of Miniatures.

The Ukrainian national anthem consists of only six lines (four in a verse and two in a chorus). The remaining verses of the anthem are considered politically incorrect. (“We’ll stand, brothers, in bloody battle, from the Syan to the Don” implies a claim to the territories of Russia and Poland).

The deepest underground Metro station in the world is in Kiev, Ukraine. Its over 100m deep. As a comparison the London Underground (Where I worked for over 8 years) is only 58m deep at its deepest. (Hampstead)

The Ukrainians have an entry in the Guinness book of world records for making the worlds largest champagne glass. It holds 56.25 litres. That is one hell of a hangover !

Ukranian man Nikolai Syadristy decided to shoe a flea after the hero in a famous folk tale by N.Leskov did the same. The flea is on display at the Kiev museum of miniatures :D
