Dorset may not be the first county that springs to mind when considering English wines, but Bride Valley Vineyard, the late Steven Spurrier’s legacy, has fine south-facing Dorset slopes and its clear chalky soil is identical to that found in the heart of the Champagne region. This provides perfect conditions for both sparkling and still wines and a simple low intervention approach keeps the character of Bride Valley’s grapes and terroir alive in the glass.

Unique to Bride Valley is their Dorset Crémant, the UK’s only home-produced Crémant – made using the méthode traditionelle. More a ‘wine that sparkles’ than a ‘sparkling wine’, this pure and elegant wine ‘creams’ over the palate – hence its name.

The Dorset Chardonnay 2020 is one of the purest Chardonnays you will find and a wonderful example of a cool-climate still wine. If you have not tried Chardonnay for some time, this is a wonderful reintroduction to one of the world’s most widely grown grapes.
