For many, Lanzarote holidays will start and end with sunshine, sea breeze and nights out in Puerto del Carmen. However, delve a little deeper and you’ll discover this volcanic Canary Island has a whole lot more to offer. Head to the coastal resort of Costa Teguise, on the east coast, and you’ll instantly become immersed in a much more authentic island vibe with surfable swells, alfresco bars and Spanish tapas restaurants aligning Pueblo Marinero central square.
More upmarket resorts, such as Playa Blanca in the south, provide plenty of peaceful spots to relax with Playa Flamingo and Playa Mujeres conjuring up a couple of white sand beaches for low key sunbathing and sunset strolls.
Explore along Lanzarote’s west coast and it’s the island’s volcanic landscapes that steal the show. This is where you can go for camel rides across the dunes in Timanfaya National Park and see the emerald green lake at El Golfo and black sand beaches, such as Playa del Paso.

Situated in the west of Lanzarote, Timanfaya National Park showcases the rugged natural allure of the Canary Islands. It’s a fascinating location to visit with vast stretches of volcanic terrain accessible via designated tracks and footpaths. Guided nature tours and narrated coach trips invite travellers to find out more as they explore, or you can saddle up and take a stroll by camel for an even more active adventure. Take a tour of the Ruta de los Volcanes to experience geothermal features, close up, before stopping for lunch at El Diablo restaurant and visiting the info centre at Mancha Blanca.
If you’re looking for a laid-back holiday in Lanzarote, head to Costa Teguise on the east coast for sand dusted promenades and water sports off the shoreline of Playa de las Cucharas. It’s the perfect place for soaking up some sunshine or heading off for a hike up to the top of the Montana Corona volcanic hillside. The views over the Atlantic from the summit are amazing. Elsewhere in Costa Teguise you’ll find the Lanzarote aquarium as well as a mix of steakhouses and seafood restaurants on the palm-lined Plaza Tenerife Boulevard. Also, if you’re looking for day trip ideas, there’s an excellent water park nearby and the Jameos del Agua volcanic tunnels and salt lake are also well worth a visit.

The flight time from the UK to Lanzarote is around four hours.

Lanzarote tends to keep a quite comfortable climate all year round. July and August can be super-hot, of course, however, head to this Canary Island anytime outside summer and you’ll still find blue skies and sunshine just without the scorchio temperatures.
